Intrinsic Series 2016

'Intrinsic Series'

My practice here was involved with investigating pure surface areas that are marked or impacted upon by aesthetical qualities explored throughout printing processes.

With previous experiences and recurrent influences in abstraction, colour, mark making and emotive subjects my work aims to endorse and emphasise the physicality of the creative process through traditional media.

My work opens up a further dialogue of responsive mark making in essence to the body, conscious and subconscious decision-making. To achieve these outcomes my practice examines the development of intuitive anthropomorphic qualities with the notion to prompt visceral responses.

Heavily influenced by the concepts of the American Abstract art movement alongside works by Tania Kovats and Claude Heath my work aims to imitate the act of the spontaneous process. Utilising the expressionist’s idea of autonomy and unbound approaches, it is the considered subject matter of my independent practice were my work separates.

Throughout this explorative progression my purpose was to achieve a deeper contextual and practical understanding of the liberty surrounding the impulsiveness of mark making and process lead directions. Emphasising process as a ‘container’ to initialise my practice, my intent is to gain an awareness and connection to varying methods capable of sustaining and portraying distinctive and instinctive mark making techniques.
